Enhance You Listening Skills With " Love Story"

My student can't help but repeatedly sing this song. She said that the lyrics are  easy and the tone is upbeat. Surely, students of English would find this enjoyable too.

We were both ___________, when I first saw you.

I close my eyes and the flashback starts-

I'm standing there, on a balcony in _____________ air.

I see the lights; see the __________-, the ball gowns.

I see you make your way through the _____________-

You say hello, little did I know...

That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles-

And my daddy said "stay away from Juliet"-

And I was crying on the ___________-

begging you, "Please don't go..."

And I said...

Romeo take me somewhere, we can be alone.

I'll be waiting; all there's left to do is_________.

You'll be the __________ and I'll be the princess,

It's a love story, baby, just say yes.

So I ________________out to the garden to see you.

We keep quiet, because we're dead if they knew-

So close your eyes... escape this town for a little while.

Oh, Oh.

Cause you were Romeo - I was a scarlet letter,

And my daddy said "stay away from Juliet" -

but you were ____________to me-

I was begging you, "Please don't go"

And I said...

Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone.

I'll be waiting; all there's left to do is run.

You'll be the __________ and I'll be the princess.

It's a love story, baby, just say yes-

Romeo save me, they're trying to tell me how to feel.

This love is ___________-, but it's real.

Don't be__________, we'll make it out of this mess.

It's a love story, baby, just say yes.

Oh, Oh.

I got tired of waiting.

Wondering if you were ever coming around.

My faith in you was _________-

When I met you on the outskirts of town.

And I said...

Romeo ________ me, I've been feeling so alone.

I keep waiting, for you but you never come.

Is this in my head, I don't know what to think-

He knelt to the ground and pulled out a _________ and said...

Marry me Juliet, you'll never have to be alone.

I love you, and that's all I really know.

I talked to your dad -- go pick out a_________ dress

It's a love story, baby just say... yes.

Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh.

'cause we were both ___________ when I first saw you

One Big Tip In Speaking : Enunciate

ENUNCIATE

I once had a student from Cambodia who was very talkative in English.Everything was perfect except one big problem- I couldn't understand what he was trying to  say most of the time.

Enunciation plays a big part in speaking. You have to clearly say the words so that people would understand you.

After watching this short video clip from  Friends, an
American sitcom, you would understand more about enunciation.
I suggest that you imitate the way they say their lines.
Enunciate and have fun in studying English!

Some tips on how to enunciate:

1.Speak slowly.

2. Open your mouth and say the words  a little louder.

3. Practice with tongue twisters. Here's a previous article that you can use -
Click These Tongue Twisters

4.Practice,practice and practice.

Something New About Google Email ( Gmail )

Do you get more mail from your inbox, and you get confused by it all?

Google is doing a good job in filtering spam mails. Recently, it introduces Priority Inbox (in beta) which separates bologna , or “bacn” ( pronounced as “ bacon”) from your important emails. Bologna, or “bacn”, refers to emails that you have subscribed before but you don’t need to read them immediately.
Basically, Priority Inbox divides your inbox to three sections. On the upper part, you can see “Important and unread stuffs. On the middle, you can see the “Starred” emails wherein you can go back to, and below that would be “Everything else” stuffs.

When you frequently email a friend, Gmail would detect and mark that as important. Also, you can help Gmail organize your emails by clicking on two new  icons as important or unimportant.

Go ahead, go to your Gmail beta and see the "New! Priority Inbox" link on the top right corner of your Gmail account. This new e-mail tool will definitely make your life easier!

Lemon Tree

I 'm sitting here in the boring room
It's just another rainy Sunday afternoon
I'm wasting my time
I got nothing to do
I'm hanging around
I'm waiting for you
But nothing ever happens and I wonder

I'm driving around in my car
I'm driving too fast
I'm driving too far
I'd like to change my point of view
I feel so lonely
I'm waiting for you
But nothing ever happens and I wonder

I wonder how
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
And all that I can see is just a yellow lemon-tree
I'm turning my head up and down
I'm turning turning turning turning turning around
And all that I can see is just another lemon-tree

I'm sitting here
I miss the power
I'd like to go out taking a shower
But there's a heavy cloud inside my head
I feel so tired
Put myself into bed
Well, nothing ever happens and I wonder

Isolation is not good for me
Isolation I don't want to sit on the lemon-tree

I'm steppin' around in the desert of joy
Baby anyhow I'll get another toy
And everything will happen and you wonder

I wonder how
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
And all that I can see is just another lemon-tree
I'm turning my head up and down
I'm turning turning turning turning turning around
And all that I can see is just a yellow lemon-tree
And I wonder, wonder

I wonder how
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
And all that I can see, and all that I can see, and all that I can see
Is just a yellow lemon-tree

Bill Gates And Warren Buffett Convince Other Billionaires To Donate The Majority Of Their Wealth

How would you like to donate half of your money to charitable causes? The following article is a big proof that being rich doesn't mean you're bad and money is not the root of all evil.

Meenal Vamburkar | 4:18 pm, August 4th, 2010

[gates_buffett] Bill Gates and Warren Buffett rank second and third respectively on Forbes’ list of billionaires. And while both have been involved in philanthropy for quite some time, it was only recently that they launched The Giving Pledge, a challenge directed toward the country’s wealthy to give away majority of their wealth to charitable causes. Today, 34 billionaires have signed on.

According the initiative’s website, “Each person who chooses to pledge will make this statement publicly, along with a letter explaining their decision to pledge…The Pledge is a moral commitment to give, not a legal contract. It does not involve pooling money or supporting a particular set of causes or organizations.”

Those who have signed on agree to give away at least 50 percent of their wealth during their lifetime or after death. Billionaires who have made the pledge include New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, media mogul Ted Turner, David Rockefeller and Oracle CEO and co-founder Larry Ellison.

Buffett, himself, has pledged to give away a whopping 99 percent of his wealth, saying the remaining 1 percent is more than enough to live comfortably:

This pledge will leave my lifestyle untouched and that of my children as well. They have already received significant sums for their personal use and will receive more in the future. They live comfortable and productive lives. And I will continue to live in a manner that gives me everything that I could possibly want in life.

Some material things make my life more enjoyable; many, however, would not. I like having an expensive private plane, but owning a half-dozen homes would be a burden. Too often, a vast collection of possessions ends up possessing its owner. The asset I most value, aside from health, is interesting, diverse, and long-standing friends.

The philanthropic initiative is an admirable effort, and it seems likely that more of those who can afford to pledge will do so.

Joey's gone gray!

Six years after the finale of "Friends" — and four after spinoff "Joey" ended — fans might be shocked to see Matt LeBlanc, now 43, sporting silver hair.

But LeBlanc has a big secret bottled up. "I dyed my hair the whole time on 'Friends,'" he admitted Thursday at a Television Critics' Panel in Beverly Hills for his new Showtime series "Episodes."

"I just was sick of doing it," LeBlanc explained of darkening his locks.

And his 4-year TV hiatus was just what the doctor ordered, he said. "When 'Joey' ended, I took a lot of time off... I just really was kinda burned out. I just wanted to be a dad."

LeBlanc has a 6-year-old daughter, Marina, with his ex-wife Melissa McKnight. "We have a great bond, and it's the best thing in my life."

On "Episodes," LeBlanc plays a character named... Matt LeBlanc. "It's a character," he added. "It's not me. It's the public's perception of me more than really me."

Will LeBlanc reunite with "Friends" cohort Courteney Cox for a cameo on her ABC hit "Cougar Town"? "I haven't been asked!" he admitted, laughing.

Free Hugs

The Free Hugs Campaign is a social movement involving individuals who offer hugs to strangers in public places. The campaign in its present form was started in 2004 by an Australian man known only by the pseudonym "Juan Mann". The campaign became famous internationally in 2006 as the result of a music video on YouTube by the Australian band Sick Puppies, which is one of the most popular on the site, having been viewed over 60,000,000 times. The hugs are meant to be random acts of kindness - selfless acts performed just to make others feel better. International Free Hugs Day is celebrated on the first Saturday of July.
The Free Hugs campaign in its present form was started by Juan Mann on June 30, 2004, when he began giving out hugs in the Pitt St Mall in central Sydney. In the months prior to this, Mann had been feeling depressed and lonely as a result of numerous personal difficulties. However, a random hug from a stranger made an enormous difference, with Mann stating that "...I went out to a party one night and a completely random person came up to me and gave me a hug. I felt like a king! It was greatest thing that ever happened."[2]
Mann carried the now iconic "FREE HUGS" sign from the outset. However on his first attempt in his hometown, where he returned to find that he was the only person he knew, as his friends and family had moved away, he had to wait fifteen minutes before an elderly lady came up to him and gave him a hug.[3]
Initial distrust of Juan Mann's motives eventually gave way to a gradual increase of people willing to be hugged, with other huggers (male and female) helping distribute them. In October 2004 police told them they must stop, as Mann had not obtained public liability insurance worth $25 million for his actions. Mann and his companions used a petition to attempt to convince authorities that his campaign should be allowed to continue without the insurance. His petition reached 10,000 signatures. He submitted it and was allowed to continue giving free hugs.[4]

'FREE HUGS', Hyde Park, London.
Mann befriended Shimon Moore, lead singer for Sick Puppies, shortly after commencing his campaign, and over a two-month period in late 2004 Moore recorded video footage of Mann and his fellow huggers. Moore and his band moved to Los Angeles in March 2005 and nothing was immediately done with the footage. Meanwhile Mann continued his campaign throughout 2005 and 2006 by appearing in Pitt St Mall in Sydney most Thursday afternoons.
In mid 2006 Mann's grandmother died, and in consolation Moore made the music video using the footage he had shot in 2004 to send to Mann as a gift, stating in an interview that, "I sent it to him on a disc as a present and I wrote down 'This is who you are'."[4] The video was later uploaded onto YouTube where it is now one of the most viewed videos on the site, with over 59 million views as of June 2010.[5]
On October 30, 2006, Mann was invited by Oprah Winfrey to appear on her show Oprah after her producer's doctor saw the Free Hugs video on YouTube. Juan Mann made an appearance outside her studio that morning, offering free hugs to the crowd waiting to see the taping of that day's episode. Oprah's camera crews caught several people in the audience hugging Mann as the morning progressed.[6]
On October 23, 2007, Juan Mann announced his residential address online and offered an open invitation to anyone to come over and chat on-camera as part of his 'open-house project'. Mann hosted 80 guests over 36 days. On November 25, 2007, Mann's landlord threatened him with eviction, so he launched an online appeal.[7]
On December 25, 2007, Juan Mann made his e-book "The Illustrated Guide to Free Hugs" available as a free download. On November 22, 2008, at YouTube Live Sick Puppies did a performance of "All the Same" while Juan Mann gave hugs to crowd members. On February 13, 2009 a Free Hug Day took place.
On August 23, 2009, "Juan Mann" announced via his Facebook page linking to an article on his blog that he is "retiring" from Free Hugs, and has invited any interested party to take over the role – though he stresses that he does not own any rights relating to the Free Hugs concept, nor any income, and that there is nothing stopping anyone from undertaking the activity at any time, any place in the world. The successful applicant will take over the responsibilities of maintaining the Free Hugs website and forum, as well as any other "official" Free Hugs presence Juan presently maintains online.

Answer the following questions :

1. How did Free Hugs Campaign start?

2. What is the purpose of this campaign?

3. Would you participate in this campaign? Why or  why not ?

She's embarrassed a lot of people in her life.

What is the best part about acting the fool?
These funny stories are yours only and you don't have to share them with your friends.
In the end, your friends will mock you and call you a fool. That's not funny.
Those are the stories you end up sharing. Those are the funniest things that happen.

What does she say about the new school and the school where she had studied before?
It was her first day in a private school and she had only studied in public schools before then.
Studying in a private High School is difficult at first because it's very different from a public High School.
It was her first day of High School. She hadn't been in a public school in years because she went to private school.

How did she feel on her first day and what did she try to do to break the ice?
She wasn't really nervous, but she thought "I probably need to put some ice on this. It tastes funny".
She was really nervous and she didn't really know anyone, so she thought 'Well, the best way to break the ice is, of course, to be funny."
The idea of breaking the ice in front of everyone on the first day of school made really nervous.

The students in her Algebra-Geometry III class were asked to introduce themselves. What did the girl sitting in front of her say? What did Esther think?
"Hello, my name is Lori." Esther thought: "Ahahaha... she's totally pretending to have a lisp. That's so funny. I'll do the same thing."
"Hello, my name is Dori." Esther thought: "She's totally pretending to be Japanese. That's not funny. I'll have to do something."
"I'm so sorry!" Esther thought: "That's not really true. She's just pretending. I have to say something."

According to Esther, what was the reaction of the class to what she did?
75% of the class thought it was a very nice sentence. She was so surprised, she didn't know what to say.
As soon as she got about 75% of the way through that one sentence, she realized that the room had gone completely silent.
Each student gave 75 cents to help Lori. She got very emotional and didn't know what to say.

What did she finally understand about Lori?
Lori wasn't pretending to have a lisp. SHE HAD ONE!
Lori was just pretending to have a list, but Esther really HAD ONE!
If nobody had a friend to mock, Esther thought SHE HAD ONE!

Go ahead! Put comments in here . What is your most embarrassing moment?

Hazel Lee is a young, cool, smart Korean student I teach every night. What I like most about this student is that she's always cheerful. She usually gets home at 10 in the evening because of studying in the academy, but  I never fail to see a lively face that greets me every night.
In this video that she did , she presented some common English expressions. Her grammar might not be perfect but she just confidently talked  and expressed  herself. I'm so proud of her.

What are the four expressions that you  heard? Please comment.
