Lie Versus Lay

"Lie" and "lay" are often confusing, right? This post would tell you the difference.

"Lay" is an action word which means to put or place something somewhere. It needs a direct object.

Sentence Examples:
I usually lay my pencil on this table.
Yesterday, I laid my pencil on this table.
I have laid my pencil on this table many times.

"Lie" is an action word meaning to recline. It doesn't need an object.

Sentence Examples:
Every night I lie down.
I lay down last night.
I have lain down many times.

Still confused on what to use?
You may just print this out and take a look at it every time you need to use these words!
